The Roanoke Adolescent Health Partnership (RAHP) is a collaborative effort of the Roanoke City Health Department, Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Roanoke City Public Schools, and Carilion Clinic.  The organization was founded in 1992 and obtained a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit tax-exempt status in 1994.  RAHP's city partners provide it with buildings to operate, supplies, security, technology and medicine.  It’s medical partner provides medical oversight through it’s co-medical directors.  Because of these significant in-kind contributions, RAHP's overhead is extremely low. Corporate and foundation contributions can, therefore, be applied almost entirely for direct services to adolescents.

RAHP operates one community-based and two school-based health care clinics for adolescents ages 10-19, at no cost to the patient or family.  The largest single source of funding for the clinic is from billings to insurance carriers.  Last year the three clinics provided 4,891 patient care visits for 3,382 adolescents.  Nearly 30% of the teens served come from households where no health insurance coverage was indicated.  Since 1994 the two school-based teen health centers have been located in trailers on the campuses of William Fleming and Patrick Henry High School.  Open during October, 2007, the teen health center of the Patrick Henry High School was relocated in the main building of the newly reconstructed facility.  This is a significant accomplishment, as no other school district in Southwest Virginia has such a facility for adolescent health care.  The teen health center at William Fleming High School is scheduled to move into the main building of that school when its reconstruction is completed in the fall of 2009.

RAHP offers health care to Roanoke area teens ages 10-19 at no cost to the patient or the patient’s family.  Any teen is eligible to use the Teen Health Centers, but all students must have a parental permission form on file to use the centers.
